Brief Reviews on Yamaha Digital Pianos

YDP-141 Arius Yamaha Digital Piano Review

The YDP-141 is a family friendly piano with a nice furniture-like cabinet. The Yamaha YDP-141 resembles the Clavinova CLP-320 but with slightly less powerful speakers. You may not mind the speaker power since you can get the YDP-141 at less than half of the price. You have basic features such as metronome, headphone jacks, 10 different sounds, 88 keys with the nice hammer-action feel.

YDP-161 Arius Yamaha Digital Piano Review

The YDP-161 also resembles the Clavinova CLP-320 almost exactly. They have almost all the same features and the YDP-161 is an upgrade from the YDP-141 because it has more speaker power. This piano is still several hundred less than the Yamaha Clavinova. It's a great family piano and has the nice hammer-action weighted keys.

YDP-V240 Arius Yamaha Digital Piano Review

This is the high end line of Arius digital pianos. You have the nice hammer-action keys and nice furniture-like cabinet with some extra nice features. There are over 500 different sounds to choose from including drum kits and effects sounds. There is USB connectivity so you can connect to a laptop or desktop. The YDP-V240 has Performance Assist Technology or P.A.T. which lets you play along perfectly with songs. If you hit a note that isn't in the right key of the song you are playing with, that note won't sound. You'll have a perfect performance every time.

Yamaha P-155 Review

The P-155 has the nice hammer-action keys and comes with 17 sounds. This digital piano weighs only 37 pounds which makes it more of a portable or stage piano. It has the features of the Yamaha Clavinova CLP-340 but the P-155 is 115 pounds lighter. The P-155 is also hundreds of dollars less than the CLP-340. The sounds were recorded from Yamaha's best full size concert grand piano, the CFlllS. A down side is the speakers are kind of small on the Yamaha P-155 digital piano. You may want to connect an amplifier for more power.

Tyros 4 Yamaha Workstation Review

The Tyros 4 is a 61-note digital workstation. It has an amazing number of features. There are over 500 accompaniment styles and over 1,000 different sounds that you can manipulate to create new sounds. You can connect directly to the internet for more sounds. The Tyros has some very high quality sounds that include room ambiance. The chorus sounds have been improved to be amazingly realistic. This keyboard may give a little bit of sticker shock at around $5k. It does come with free shipping here form Piano Gallery with speakers and a stand.

NP-30 Yamaha Digital Piano Review

The NP-30 is a 76-note portable keyboard. This keyboard is made to be extremely portable with enough keys for you to play any songs you want. The keyboard weighs only 12 pounds and can take batteries. There is a few sounds and a record feature. The downside is, the keys aren't very weighted. The NP-30 has what's called "Graded Soft Touch" keys that give a little resistance. There aren't very many features on this portable Yamaha Piano compared to the YPG-235 which we will review next.

YPG-235 Portable Piano Review

The YPG-235 has more features than we have seen in a portable keyboard at this price point. There are 500 different sounds available in stereo sampling with bass boost. You also have 6-track recording and the Yamaha education suite to learn to play the piano. There are some great learning features. When you are playing the YPG-235 and learning a song, the "wait and play" slows the song down and waits until you hit the right notes before moving on. The keys are graded soft touch like the NP-30 and you can put batteries in the Yamaha YPG-235 as well. It's a great first step piano at this price and packed with plenty of fun.
