Metronome - What is it?

Piano Metronome - What is it?

A metronome is a tool used for staying in rhythm. You adjust the metronome to the speed of the beet you would like to play at and then while playing your instrument you follow the ticks or beeps of the metronome. The metronome is often used in piano lessons and practicing to keep on rhythm and to get up to speed with the music piece being worked on.

Many digital pianos have a metronome feature within the digital piano. This helps save on cost because metronomes run as high as around $100 and can be lost or knocked off the piano and broken. Some metronomes in digital pianos may not be very accessible or user friendly. When you use a metronome, it's best to only need a few seconds to adjust the speed of the beet.

Metronomes can be used with any instrument. There are drum metronomes, guitar metronomes but a metronome can be used with any instrument. You can even download metronome software to your smart phone or computer.

There is controversy in the need for a metronome. Some pianists believe that it hinders creativity and natural flow. That may be true in some applications and situations. The majority find the metronome a very useful tool.
