Digital Pianos Cheap, to Fit Your Needs

A Digital Piano Cheap and High Quality

Looking for a good digital piano but don't have much cash? How about some info and ideas to help you find a great deal on digital pianos cheap.

There are so many makes and models of digital pianos out there, it can be intimidating to shop around. There are so many specs and features, which features do you really need in digital pianos for cheap? Many digital pianos have lots of exta sounds and recording features just to make the piano more marketable. Most people will buy a digital piano because it has lots of fun extras, but in the end, it's usually the piano sound that gets all the attention.

If you are tight on a budget, just look for the absolute essentials. You can get high quality sound and still save a lot of money. You have to determine your objectives. Do you need the weighted keys and all 88 keys? There are some great 76 note keyboards that have a weight in the keys but they just aren't hammer-action weighted. This may be all you need. You can find deals like this for around $200. We have a couple. One is the YPG-235 and the other is the NP-30. They are both Yamaha keyboards and 76 note. They aren't fully weighted but there is a slight weight to them. With the YPG-235 you actually get a bunch of extras. There's a few hundred sounds and 6 track recording.

If you want to go more portable, the NP-30 is lighter weight and requires less battery power. It's a little easier to pack around since it only weighs 12 pounds.

We have a small list of essentials that may help that you shouldn't go without in a digital piano cheap.

  • 76 keys or more
  • headphones jack (it's hard to find a keyboard without one)
  • graded touch keys (This gives a little weight to the keys although it's not considered "weighted")
  • MIDI capability. It can be USB MIDI or just MIDI. Either way, you'll be able to get a cord to connect to a computer which gives you much more capability.
  • Music Rest. This is a simple feature but essential
  • Touch sensitive - The harder you play the louder the sound, very important and nearly all keyboards have this now.

That's it to get you started. You can learn piano on a keyboard such as this. It really does depend on your level of playing but you can play most classical songs on this kind of keyboard. If you are a little more advanced and the nice weighted keys are essential, you'll need to spend slightly more money but there are still some really great deals.

You can get 88 hammer-action weighted keys for less than $600. Before 2005 you couldn't find a hammer-action weighted digital piano cheap or even under $1,000. That all changed when Casio came out with their Privia Line. Privia revolutionized the market bringing digital pianos that felt like grand pianos to the under $1,000 range. Yamaha came out with the P95 which is a great sounding and feeling digital piano. You can play everything you need with these pianos. A digital piano cheap won't make you sacrifice the high quality essentials.
