Best Digital Piano for Beginners

Best Digital Piano for Beginners

Which Digital Piano is Better for a Beginner

Usually the first question when considering the best digital piano for beginners is what if they don't stick with playing the piano? Then your next thought is usually, "I don't want to spend a lot of money for a piano that won't ever be played." This is a very common thought process. We have some solutions for you.

If the digital piano is for a young person starting piano lessons, we would suggest a keyboard that is low cost, fun to play and comes with some education features to make learning the piano fun. The hardest part about piano lessons is the first couple years because learning to read notes is boring for kids until they start doing well.

The Yamaha YPG-235 is a 76 note keyboard with lots of fun features and is under $300. The keys have resistance to them but aren't fully weighted. Most piano teachers do like weighted keys but we do know some very prestigious piano academies that start with 76 note keyboards similar to this one. The YPG-235 has the Yamaha Education Suite which has some great features that kids love. A beginner can play with a song on the YPG, and the song will slow down or stop until the right notes are played.

If the piano teacher requires a full weighted keyboard, we would recommend a Casio PX-130. This piano has hammer-action weighted keys that feel like a grand piano and is the lowest cost nice digital piano you'll probably find. There aren't very many features, just a few sounds, metronome, headphone jacks, recording and a couple other features to adjust the sound of the piano. So, it has the essentials but is a great best digital piano for a beginner.
